Electronic Cigarettes

by on 01 March

In order to reduce health risk caused by nicotine addiction, Palm Valley Pediatric Dentistry providers perform routine screening for tobacco use among children and adolescents and educating the parents and children on the health risk of use of e-cigarettes.

E-cigarettes, also called electronic nicotine delivery systems, are battery powered devices with a heating element that vaporizes a nicotine laced solution which in inhaled by the child.  Although often misleading, e-cigarette are intended and are marked as a less harmful alternative for tobacco smokers to consume nicotine. It comes in a variety of nicotine concentrations and flavors such as: chocolate, peppermint and pina colada, which makes appealing to children, adolescents and first time users.

Although e-cigarette contains nicotine, it is not regulated by state of federal government in the same way as regular cigarette products, accordingly children at young age can have unrestricted access to its purchase. Unrestricted access to smoking of e-cigarettes not only poses health risks to user, but also may pose health risk to youth nearby due to second hand exposure of the vapors.
