Childhood Caries Prevalence in Preschool Children

by on 14 November

Ultimately, family behavior is the model for hygiene habits for young children. This makes it increasingly important to establish a regular oral hygiene routine at home. Brush and floss together as a family at designated times to establish this routine for them to continue as they grow. If the child is too young, it is essential that the parent or caregiver cleans the preschool-aged child’s teeth regularly. Diet also is a major factor in the likelihood of developing childhood caries. Sugary items or just snacks in between meals have contributed to the increase risk of developing them.

Early childhood caries is difficult to treat in both infants and preschool children alike. By establishing an effective prevention program during the early stages of the child’s life, they can be prevented. A regular schedule of dental visits also allows our team at Palm Valley Pediatric Dentistry to monitor changes in their teeth. We offer preventative solutions as well.
